Jim is a consultant and the owner of a small business in Barrie that provides urban planning and landscape architectural services throughout Southern Ontario. With almost 20 years experience in municipal government as a career urban planner and economic development professional, Jim is dedicated to ensure the building of safe and progressive communities in Ward 7.
In addition, as senior municipal staff, Jim brings to Ward 7 a long history of successfully resolving day to day ward concerns in the GTA, including traffic issues, relocating cell towers, new infrastructure and infill housing concerns. His hands-on experience in growth management matters will help Ward 7 achieve efficient growth and development of the annexation lands.
Jim has significant experience in municipal budgeting and works to improve the sound use of municipal resources in order to save tax dollars. His successful track record of helping small and large companies to grow brings enormous advantage to Ward 7 businesses.
Jim is experienced in hosting community-wide gatherings or meeting one on one with residents to hear their concerns and work toward balanced, practical solutions.
Further, Jim has a deep understanding of provincial legislation and policies that affect municipalities. He has a knack of breaking through the jargon to explain municipal processes to residents.

Ward 7 is experiencing tremendous growth challenges including traffic congestion and development intensification along Essa Road.” Hosick commented “My objective is to meet each constituent in order to understand how I can best serve the Ward”, he added. “I am ready to roll up my sleeves to work hard for Ward 7.”
Hosick has been a resident in the Barrie area for over 20 years, and lives in Barrie with his wife Susan and young daughter and looks forward to creating new successes in Ward 7.
Jim is a passionate volunteer and community builder in the City of Barrie and has a long history of involvement which includes:
An appointed member of The City of Barrie’s Committee of Adjustment for 8 years, resolving planning issues within Ward 7 and throughout the City.
Currently serves as a Director at the Barrie Chamber of Commerce and as the Vice-chair of the Government Relations Committee at the Chamber. This Committee advocates on behalf of local businesses. He is looking forward to speaking with business owners in Ward 7.
Jim is also passionate about the arts and currently serves as Co-Chair of the newly formed Barrie Arts Committee that advocates on behalf of all genres of the arts within the Barrie area. He invites all artists and artistic groups in the Ward to contact him.
An active member of the City of Barrie Communities in Bloom Committee which worked together to achieve a Grand Champion 5 Silver Rating in the 2015 Edition of the National/International Awards.
Participated in the Huronia Habitat for Humanity's Kathy Irvine 10th Anniversary "build" for the construction of affordable homes in the City of Barrie.
